Digital Media

digital-mediaWith analogue television being switched off, and broadcasting stations switching to digital systems, our world has become so rapidly digitized that it is hard to remember what is was like before computer technology revolutionised the way we access information.

But more than the digitization of media is the way in which having data in digital form allows for greater integration. Today we accept quite happily that a web page may have streaming audio recordings of interviews or tutorials, with videos just a click away, and of course text and images clearly displayed immediately we load the page.

Yet when we stop and think that this data is probably spread across half the world, streaming thousands of miles – possibly into space and back, just to arrive on our screen, digital media is almost a conjuring act of information manipulation. Being able to record our own media, upload it to the web and share it with millions of other users across the globe has helped give a voice to everyone.
