It’s hard to imagine a world without the kind of technological gadgets with which we have so quickly become accustomed. We take for granted that we will be able to speak to almost anyone on the planet, no matter where we are – on the bus, on the plane, on the beach or in the middle of the forest. We accept quite happily that we can carry the equivalent of a suitcase of albums in a small gadget half the size of a deck of cards.
Not only has technology become smarter, faster and more sophisticated, as well as much smaller and more portable, but it has become far more integrated. It is the integration of technology that has perhaps made the biggest impact, with phones, computers, music systems and televisions all sharing data, communicating with each other and sharing files.
With home wireless networking, mobile broadband and wireless communications, we are simultaneously set free and interconnected.
